Dr Madaio is chief of nephrology and kidney transplantation and professor of medicine at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his MD from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, and completed his internship and residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
Dr Madaio is a frequently invited lecturer at national and international conferences and symposia on nephrology and immunology. He has been listed in Philadelphia Magazine’s top doctors 3 times and has been named to Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. Recently, he won the Lady Barbara Colyton Prize for Autoimmune Research. He has been principal investigator for research funded by the Public Health Service, the Lupus Foundation of America, and the American Heart Association.
He is a member of the International Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Nephrology, the New York Academy of Science, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Federation for Clinical Research, and the National Kidney Foundation, among others, and serves on the Medical/Scientific Advisory Council of the Lupus Foundation of America.
Dr Madaio has published more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Immunology, the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, and Kidney International. He is co-author of 2 books, one on lupus and one on rheumatology and the kidney, and is the author of 19 book chapters. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cell and Molecular Biology and Future Rheumatology.
