Dr Schwartz is professor of pathology at Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois, and senior attending physician in the department of pathology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center. In 2005, he was honored with the Otho S.A. Sprague Chair in Pathology at Rush University. He received his MD from the University of Minnesota and completed his residency at the Mallory Institute of Pathology at Boston City Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr Schwartz is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the International Society of Pathology, and the American Association of Pathologists. He has been awarded the Jacob Churg Award from the Renal Pathology Society. He is co-investigator for a study funded by the United States Public Health Service.

Dr Schwartz has published more than 125 articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Kidney International, and the Archives of Internal Medicine, and more than 85 abstracts presented at national and international meetings and conferences. He is the author of 23 book chapters and the editor of 3 books on kidney pathology and disease.
